Business rides out storm over Catalan independence

A year ago, business leaders in Catalonia feared the worst for the wealthy north-east Spanish region’s economy. The Catalan government’s push for independence led to acute political tensions, strikes and clashes between citizens and police. Business leaders feared the region could ultimately break from Spain and also come crashing out of the EU. Leading Catalan banks saw customers switch their deposits to rivals in other regions and thousands of companies went so far as to move their legal headquarters elsewhere in Spain.
One year on, while political tensions are still acute, the economic picture in Catalonia appears much rosier...
